|
We at the Centre for Independent
Living, are a grassroots organization, established in 1996, for and by
disabled people. Our purpose is to empower and enable disabled individuals to
achieve Independent Living as a human right. Our organization is one of
approx. 27 centres of independent living around Ireland. The CIL network
brings representative from all the CILs together, so that we can work
together and support each other, as we all work towards ensuring that all
disabled individuals in Ireland have the choices and supports necessary, to
enable them to live independently in the community. Our organization support
many individuals to leave institutional care and obtain supports to live
independently, specifically through our Personal Assistant Support Service.

We operate from the centre of
Sligo Town and provide our services all over Sligo Town and County.

The Sligo Centre for Independent
Living Ltd. aims primarily to promote their services, as well as projecting
positive images and perceptions of people with disabilities. This refers to
circumstances form person to person, and encourages them to live as they
wish, regardless of barriers, which are imposed by society.

The organization’s mission
statement and the independent living philosophy, as we know it of Adolf
Ratzka, PHD espouses living life to the fullest Being able to have and being
able to pursue activities of one’s own choosing, regardless of disability.
Empower and enable people with disabilities to participate in all aspects of
daily living.

We provide a personal centred
service to support physical and or sensory disabled individuals between the
ages of 18-65 years who wish to

users?
|
Individuals, who are participating
in the social, economic and political life of their communities.

What makes your service different
to that provided by others?
|
Our clients wish to take full
responsibility for the instruction he/she gives to his/her Personal
Assistant, who is employed by our organization, and for the actions and
consequences that follow from these. The Personal Assistant, during the time
that he/she is on duty takes instruction from our client.

What is your specific expertise?
|
As a Service Manager, I am
responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization. Ensuring the
smooth running and development of the Personal Assistant Service, ensuring to
strive towards putting the organization’s philosophy of independent living
into practice, liaise with the officials of the main funders regarding
funding and further development, work in conjunction with other CILs in
Ireland on national issues and projects, liaise with officials of Statutory
and Voluntary Agencies, to ensure that all legislation which effects the
running and/or administration of the organization are adhered to and up-dated
on a continuous basis, HR, the preparation of budgets, to oversee the various
financial, administrative and secretarial duties of the organization, oversee
the preparation of accounts for Annual Financial Audit, Personnel Relations
etc.

The Sligo Centre for Independent
Living Ltd. are open and welcome other providers to approach us with revised
or new ways of sharing resources, in particular the sharing of training
facility, -equipment, - and instructor.
