Describe the type of service you deliver

Transitional Living residential & Community Outreach support.

Who are your typical clients/service users?

18 – 65 yr old people with an Acquired Brain Injury as a result of, road traffic accident, Assault, Aneurysm, Viral Infection, Anoxia, Home / Work place accidents, Fall, Brain Haemorrhage, Stroke. 

What makes your service different to that provided by others?

We provide intense Cognitive rehabilitation following an Acquired Brain Injury. It is a specialised service catering specifically for people with Cognitive deficits following brain injury. Service includes input from Psychology, O.T.,  Case management, and team of  Trained Rehabilitation Assistants . Sligo Service is a partnership with HSE Physical & Sensory Disabilities Brain Injury Service. Partnership goes under the remit of Community Brain Injury Team.  

What is your specific expertise?

I have worked in the disability sector all my life and my background is in Mental Health, I have also worked in Child services and Intellectual Disabilities.

How long are you involved in the sector?

2 Years with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.

How would you like to interact with other providers in future (if applicable)?

Conferences such as this are a great opportunity to network and share information.

We recognise that each person is unique and every Brain Injury is different. Because of this our Service is continually updating & seeking external resources and support in response to clients needs. We depend very much on the supports we avail of through many other organisations such as , LAPWD, IWA, RehabCare, CIL,  Stroke Group, Physio / S.A.L.T. , Employers, Leader, FAS, T.O.S.S., VEC, NLN, HSE Home Help, St Johns Hospital  Rehab Unit,

Describe the type of service you deliver

·        Assisted Living. Home from home supported environment with the emphasis on maximising persons ‘served  inter- dependence, enhancing quality of life and community integration.

·        Home and Community Rehabilitation Service. A therapeutic model of intervention is required for all persons’served, where a flexible service is provided through joint working with the Physical & Sensory Disability Service and Specialist staff from other agencies.

·        Community  Acquired Brain Injury Team.Joint working with the Community ABI Team [Acquired Brain Injury] and ABII [Acquired Brain injury Ireland], providing specialist input aimed at supporting rehabilitation and adjustment in a number of areas. These include functional independence and emotional, behavioural, social and vocational adjustment post injury.   

Who are your typical clients/service users?

People  aged 18-65 years  with  Acquired Brain Injuries as a result of:

Road traffic accidents, Assault, Aneurysm, Viral infection, Anoxia, accidents, brain haemorrhage, stroke.

What makes your service different to that provided by others?

 In collaboration with the Physical & Sensory Department of the HSE in Letterkenny, we provide a person centred rehabilitation service to individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury.

 

What is your specific expertise?

Psychology degree with a background in Nursing[Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Ill Health] I have worked in the area of Disabilities for 20 years.

How long are you involved in the sector?

5 years with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
